In extension of Mimi Cherono Ng'ok's exhibition, Always, in Spite of Everything, Galleri Image has published a richly illustrated exhibition catalog. It is printed at Narayana Press and contains texts by the exhibition curator and photographer Akinbode Akinbiye, Associate Professor in English at New York State University, Neelika Jayawardane, and the artist herself, Mimi Cherono Ng'ok.

On Friday November 25th, Galleri Image,  the Aarhus Centre for Literature and the Aarhus Center for Visual Art hosted the open seminar FRESH EYES on Art and Literature in the Public Space at Godsbanen in Aarhus.

A new Danish biennial dedicated to photography, Foto Biennale, has become a reality in a collaboration between Fotografisk Center in Copenhagen, Brandts in Odense, and Galleri Image.

The three institutions presented a series of exhibitions, workshops, and seminars in 2016. Galleri Image participates with the exhibition Against the Grain by the artists Anu Ramdas and Christian Danielewitz. 

On Saturday October 15th at 2pm the British artist and writer James Bridle gave an artist talk in the Sunset Lounge at the Aros art museum in Aarhus. Bridle’s work can be experienced at various locations in Aarhus until late December 2016.

Galleri Image invites you to a thought-provoking and highly relevant exhibition that points toward the relation between the remote, geological past and our current tech-hungry present.

On Saturday October 8th Galleri Image hosted the official release of the publication Against the Grain by Anu Ramdas and Christian Danielewitz.

On October 6th Galleri Image hosted a screening of the documentary 'Behemoth' by the Chinese artist Zhao Liang.

On October 4th 2016 Teoretisk Tirsdag took place at Galleri Image.

In connection with Photobook Week Aarhus, Louise Sidenius from Officin conducted the workshop 'Create your own artist book' at the Aarhus School off Architecture on October 1st and October 2nd.

Once again it was time for Photobook Week Aarhus! This year the theme was 'Collaborative Processes'.

In connection with Photobook Week Aarhus, Galleri Image hosted the official release of Ditte Lyngkær Pedersen´s new book Laughter on Thursday September 29th.

The Chinese photographer, performance and video artist Liu Jin was invited to Aarhus in May/June of 2015 by Galleri Image in order to work on his artworks as part of a DIVA-residency, supported by the Danish Arts Foundation. Several of the pieces Liu Jin created during his stay in Denmark will be on show from August 13th in the Danish Cultural Center in Beijing.

On September 15th 2016, Christian Danielewitz and Lars Kiel Bertelsen participated in a debate about Dark Value in the visual economy in connection with the exhibition Against the Grain.

Galleri Image hosted a one-day exhibition in the spirit of summer in connection with Gallery Night Aarhus. The works all spoke of surreal experiences of the familiar and natural.

In June Hyun-jin Kwak returned to Aarhus to continue work on her contribution to the artistic project FRESH EYES - International Artists Rethink Aarhus. Where earlier visits were part of the development phase, time had now come for realization.

Aarhus will be visited by Teresa Meka (b. 1990), a young female photographer from Ghana, in connection with Galleri Image and the Aarhus Center for Literature’s project FRESH EYES – International Artists Rethink Aarhus. Teresa Meka will be on residency in order to be inspired by the city and to create her contribution to FRESH EYES.

The Indian artist Anushree Fadnavis (b. 1987) will be visiting Aarhus on residency in connection with the project FRESH EYES - International Artists Rethink Aarhus. In relation to the concept behind the FRESH EYES-project few eyes could be fresher; her stay in Aarhus will also be the first time she travels outside India.

In Between / In Transit presents works by a group of artists whose focus rests on a tentative, limbo-like experience. Each project engages a different narrative and reflects on how civilization is constantly shifting, and examines the experiences of those thrust into a culture that is markedly different from their own.

In this afternoon seminar, the exhibiting artists speak on their own experiences of transience and how it has contributed insight to their projects.  Photographed in different locations around the globe, each body of work presents a similar impression of the unsteady realities where refugees wait for resolution

In the exhibition Always, in Spite of Everything Kenyan artist Mimi Cherono Ng’ok focuses on universal themes of identity, belonging, migration and growth – issues that affect us all. Cherono's works chronicle the personal experience of journeying, and the act of departing for distant places.

The exhibition Remembering the Nowhere consists of images taken from family albums and a collection of private objects gathered from the former Yugoslavian diaspora, who came to Denmark during the 90s, mostly as refugees.

Galleri Image invites you to the book launch at Den Frie of The Image Collection, a publication on photographic art and the art of collecting centered on Galleri Image's own collection of photographic art. Texts by Joan Fontcuberta, Louise Wolthers, and Lasse Krog Møller.

In connection with the solo exhibition Remembering the Nowhere by Vladimir Tomić, Galleri Image hosted the Aarhus premiere of Vladimir Tomić's award winning film FLOTEL EUROPA.

As a new year is approaching, Galleri Image will take the opportunity to exhibit a collection of Asian photoboks from the gallery’s own library with the title ‘Personal Histories: Contemporary Asian Photobooks’. The books  included in the exhibition all originate from Japan, China, and South Korea and have been published within the last ten years. The exhibition at Galleri Image focuses on personal perspectives and the exhibited books will be dealing with the themes of identity, heritage, and culture in various ways.

On Saturday January 16th at 2 PM, Vladimir Tomić will give an artist talk at Galleri Image.

Vladimir Tomić was born in 1980 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2009 he graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He lives and works in Copenhagen.
