FRESH EYES - International artists rethink Aarhus

FRESH EYES - International Artists Rethink Aarhus is an art project focused on photography, literature, and urban space. Since 2013, internationally renowned artists from Europe, Asia, and Africa have visited Aarhus to draw inspiration from the city, which has lead to a wide range of photographic and literary interpretations of life in the city. FRESH EYES is a collaboration between Galleri Image and the Aarhus Centre for Literature.

From October 12th - October 29th 2017 all the contributions will be on public display in a creative and innovative exhibition in the heart of Aarhus. The exhibition is part of the official Aarhus 2017 - European Capital of Culture programme as well as an occasion to celebrate Galleri Image's 40th anniversary.

In connection with the exhibition, Galleri Image and the Aarhus Centre for Literature will publish a spectacular art book to be launched on October 12th, 2017. In this book the many photographic works and pieces of literature will be presented side by side in order to complement each other in an innovative, artistic representation of Aarhus. During the exhibition period, Galleri Image will also function as an information hub for the project and urban installation as well as the starting point for guided walks.

In connection with the FRESH EYES project, Galleri Image and the Aarhus Centre for Literature have organised two seminars in collaboration with the Aarhus Centre for Visual Art: FRESH EYES on Urban Space on November 19th 2015 and FRESH EYES on Art and Literature in the Public Space on November 25th 2016.

The project was initiated in 2013 and will conclude with the public exhibition and book launch in October 2017. Between 2013 and 2016, eleven international photo artists and seven writers have been on residencies in Aarhus. Here, they have experienced the city on their own and engaged in dialogue with local citizens in order to create an artistic interpretation or rethinking of the city.
