Gallery Image has the pleasure of presenting the exhibition: "While We Swallow Deception" by Signe Vad 24. of May – 22. June 2008
People wandering in a forest with shopping trolleys and plastik bags, others talk together as if nothing was out of the ordinary, in a desertlike landscape. What we expect, is not what we get.
The exhibition "While We Swallow Deception" provides a critical commentary to, and problemises, modern western culture. A culture that for Signe Vad is characterised by consumerism, increased survaillence of the general public, dehumanizing urbanisation and the pursuit of beauty under the plastic-surgeons knife. Through her camera, and digital reworking of the images, Signe Vad reflects over contemporary tendencies and issues. She uses the computer as a method to investigate realities, creating scenarios that she believes represents society today. The exhibition questions how we can willingly and acceptably decieve ourselves, in a life of superficiality, when other people, in other places, are destitute.
Welcome to the opening of the exhibiton on Friday 23 of May, 16. - 18. p.m. Signe Vad will be present at the opening.
Signe Vad is currently studing for her Master Degree in photography at The School of Photography at the University of Göthenburg, Sweden. She has previously exhibited in Denmark, Germany, France and in the USA.
