Galleri Image is pleased to present
the exhibition:
"Killing Time
by Angie Hicks, England
18th of April 18th of May 2008

Water is emptied onto the kitchen
floor. Normally we would mop it up and let the floor dry, while
we concentrate on other more pressing tasks at hand. But Angie
Hicks holds our attention on the banal process of drying. She
directs her camera towards pauses, which normally just have
to be gotten over with, her work drawing out the waiting, so
that everyday, small situations are presented with renewed humour
and poetry.
It has often been remarked that
photography kills time because it halts it. In Angie Hicks
photo- and video works the opposite is the case: here time is
extended. Killing time also means to occupy the vacuum of waiting,
an attempt to overcome boredom. But instead Killing Time
focuses on an in-between time thus checking our
norms for energy and efficiency.
In three video pieces and a series
of photographs Angie Hicks casts a wry glance at the all too
familiar elements of everyday life, as when she allows banal
actions to be repeated ad absurdum and immortalizes everyday
objects in an exaggeratedly ennobling way.
Killing time, offers
us a new and surprising perspective on emptiness and the humdrum.
The exhibition Killing Time
is Angie Hicks first exhibition in Denmark.
The exhibition is supported by
the British Council.
