Gallery Image has the pleasure of presenting the exhibition:
“Scenes” by Pernille With Madsen
6th of October to 11th of November
“Scenes” is Pernille With Madsens first solo exhibition at Gallery Image. Here one will encounter a series of video works and photographs that connect different spaces. Architectural, filmic and formal-abstract spaces are joined together creating scenic tableaux or models in the video sequences and photographs. The time and place of the spaces is presented as a fluid, weightless dizziness, experienced at once as seductive and fatal. A recognizable order is thrown into disorder, generating another form of order. Author Jacob Lillemose writes in the exhibition catalogue: “Without any romantic hopes Pernille With Madsen reintroduces a human aspect into public space. A human aspect that represents a different conceptual and practical language than that of politicians, architects, corporations and “urban designers”. Instead of talking about profit, prestige and pretty facades, the human aspect in her work expresses the confusions, anxieties, paradoxes and likely failures that a person will experience in public space.”
Pernille With Madsen was educated at Det Jyske Kunstakademi from 1998- 2003. She has exhibited at the Esbjerg Kunstmuseum, Overgade and in the exhibition “New Adventures – Contemporary Danish Photography & Video,” Gallery Sejul, Korea.
Gallery Image will publish a catalogue in connection with the exhibition. The publication has received economic support from The Danish Arts Agency.
Welcome to the opening Friday the 5th of October 2007, 16.00 – 18.00
As part of Kulturnatten Friday the 12th of October, the artist will interact with the exhibited scenes from 20.00 – 23.00. This will take place as a mixture of performance and a classical guided tour, focusing on the concept of an interplay between being a part of the scene and regarding the scene from the outside.
