Galleri Image is proud to present

Antonio Panetta:
Le rectangle blanc
25th of May 24th of June 2007
The exhibition
Le retangle blanc by the Italian artist Antonio Panetta consists
of a number of black and white images (stills) from 16 mm film.
The motifs have been chosen from different fields such as sports,
landscapes and nude studies. The black and white stills are
mounted vertically and horizontally and often they overlap,
so that the motifs are blurred.
The result is a series of mysterious
photomontages, where the cinematic realism and chronology is
twisted. The artist incites us to discover the poetic potential
in the discontinuity or in a narrative without time sequence.
By isolating single images Panetta breaks the feeling of motion.
Subsequently he puts the images together once more and thereby
composes another, original rhythm. Thus Panetta examines and
challenges both film and photography and creates a completely
different expression.
Le retangle blanc has been created
especially for Galleri Image, and the exhibition is Panettas
first show in Denmark. In addition to the photographs Panetta
is showing a film at the exhibition.
Antonio Panetta is born in Italy
in 1963 but lives and works in Berlin. He is educated in architecture
(Florence) and art (Berlin). He has been teaching photography
at the Universität der Künste, Berlin. Panetta has
exhibited at the Museum Centre Vapriikki, Tampere (Finland),
Museum für Photographie, Braunschweig (Germany) and Stazione
di Topolò Postaja Topolove, Grimacco (Italy).
He has also made several films.
