Invitation Galleri Image presents TOUCH MEårhus
“Århus
Kunstbygning - Center for Contemporary Art” and the
cinema 5th of August – 3rd of September 2006 + 4th of August at 5:00 pm: opening at Århus Kunstbygning- Center for Contemporary Art in the ”demo room”, Mørksgade 13, 8000 Århus C, The artists, Nathalie Latham and Richard Fear, will be present.
+ Debut of Richard Fear’s video ”3D” (10 min) at the art cinema Øst for Paradis, Paradisgade 7-9, 8000 Århus C, August 5th at 2 pm (entry is free) The artist, Richard Fear, will be present.
TOUCH MEårhus is created from a burning wish to create a dialogue amongst actors and video exhibition spaces in Aarhus. Therefore, it is a great pleasure for Galleri Image to be able to present two art videos at “Århus Kunstbygning” and the art cinema “Øst for Paradis”. At “Århus Kunstbygning - Center for Contemporary Art”, the video projection, “Sleeping Angels”, by Australian/French video artist Nathalie Latham, can be seen. The sound accompanying the video is composed by Dan Perry. “Sleeping Angels” is a poetic work in that it contemplates the pulse of city nomads and the metropolis. Latham has filmed sleeping commuters on the metro of Tokyo, as they let themselves be transported through the city in a space that moves through the private city space, the private space of the individuals in the public sphere. In “Sleeping Angels”, the city nomads become angels, enabling their sight to turn inwards and become absorbed by stillness, silence, and the feeling of being. Throughout decades, the art cinema, ”Øst for Paradis”, has been able to bring independent and experimental film to Aarhus. Here, the video, “3D”, by American video artist, Richard Fear, can be seen. After the debut, it can be seen as trailer to future films. Both Latham and Fear reflect upon the presence of post-modern man in the socio-cultural space created by the city. In Fear´s work, this is expressed through chopped picture montages – raw video collages that have been woven together of fragmented words and sentences. TOUCH MEårhus is curated by the editor of the Art portal, aarhus.nu, and Cand.it in multi-media, Anne Dyhr. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue, which can be purchased at Galleri Image, Århus Kunstbygning, or the cinema Øst for Paradis. TOUCH MEårhus can be seen as a touch, a brush, or homage to photography and the ambiguity of optics, which are presented through two moving art videos. The exhibition is financially supported by Århus Arts Council and Danish Arts Council.
