Claudia Fâhrenkemper
* Germany
"Imago"
Reception: Friday 29th of April,
04-06pm
Opening hours: Tuesday Sunday, 01-05pm..

An eye of a beetle. A wing of a
fly. A feeler of an ant. These are some of the microscopic pieces
of nature that can be seen at the exhibition Imago by German
artist, Claudia Fährenkemper. Only here, they can be seen
enlarged between 20 3000 times their normal size. Thus
you can experience how a tiny hair of an ant joins its magnificent
body, or how the oversized wing of a fly transforms into a magical
image hanging on the wall.
Fährenkemper works with
the so-called Scanning Electron Microscope a method
by which an object is photographed electronically. The result
is an almost incomprehensible precision in which the details
of a micro world reveal themselves through a captivating presence.
In fact, you might find it irresistible to study the images
from up close in order to ensure that no details are overlooked.
In addition to the astonishing
density of details, the viewer may experience an upfront encounter
with the face of a tiny animal that is hardly noticeable on
everyday basis; an experience that might seem disturbing,
knowing that to look deeply into the eyes of someone normally
implies the eyes of a fellow human being not the eyes
of an insect. However, instead of a confrontation, the encounter
is more similar to an insight fortifying the relation between
the viewer and the art piece itself. The result is an unusual
experience where the art reaches beyond our physical frames,
down to the ground beneath our feet where it touches upon
our primordial humanity.
Imago shows a biologically based
art universe that opens up all the senses to their utmost
abilities. Above all, one thing is certain: You will never
see an ant or a beetle with the same eyes again.
Claudia Fährenkemper was
educated by Bernd Becher and Nan Hover at the Düsseldorf
Academy of Art in Germany, 1995. Since then she has exhibited
her work several places in the world. With Imago at Galleri
Image her work is exhibited for the first time in Denmark.
The exhibition is supported by Århus Kommunes Kulturudviklingspulje
and Goethe-Institut Copenhagen. The artist will be present
at the reception.
In connection with the exhibition,
Galleri Image offers guided tours and publishes a catalogue
with a text written by Louise Wolthers. Further information
