DEMORUMMET presents the video work
"Grossesse
ethérique"
by Hélène
Janet
19 March - 18
April, 2010

In a film consisting of five short
video sequences lasting one minute each, the French artist Hélène
Janet examines the fleeting image of a foetus - delineated here
by the sun shining upon the artist's own stomach. By such means,
she uses her own body as an integral element in the work of art,
with the small unborn child being filmed in a rocking movement.
The image is subjoined to the sound of wawes lapping, and accompanied
by the voice of the artist humming and old Argentine lullaby "Atahualpa
yupanqui" (sleep, sleep, my little black child). The work captures
in fragile glimses the life and movement of a foetus inside the
womb.
Hélène Janet was born in France in
1951. She has completed her art studies at the Licence d'Arts Plastiques
and Maîtrise d'Esthétique et Sciences de l'Art, both
in Paris. She now lives and works in New Caledonia, where she also
runs a gallery (Galerie Lec Lec Tic).
