Galleri Image is proud to present Confluence by Tulu Bayar, December 1 - 22, 2006, in the Demo Room
The video Confluence by Tulu Bayar will be shown in Galleri Image's Demo Room in December, 2006.
If you walk by Galleri Image's Demo Room in December, you will see two young women, each alternately putting on and taking off her headscarf. The two video projections in Confluence are shown in slow motion, which lends a special flowing sensuality and at the same time emphasizes the women's mimics. An interplay occurs between the two women; their expressions change as they let down their hair and then hide it under the headscarf or emphasize it with an unmanageable wig.
The work reflects on the discussion about Muslims' use of the headscarf in Western society. Muslim women in the West are pressured by society both to wear and to discard the headscarf. Tulu Bayar uses Confluence to focus on the inner conflict in Muslim women who are affected by this headscarf dilemma.
This is the first time that Confluence has been shown in Denmark. The video projection can be viewed 24 hours a day in the Demo Room, which can be seen through the window on Vestergade.
Tulu Bayar was born in Turkey, and presently lives in Pennsylvania where she teaches Photography and Multimedia at Bucknell University. She has a BA degree in Communication and Photojournalism from Ankara University in Turkey, and an MFA in Photography and Electronic Media from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio.

The opening of Confluence takes place on Friday, December 1, from 16:00 - 18:00.
